Question 9: Why does the pipe of paper squeezes when air is blown through it?

ANSWER

The squeezing of paper pipe when air is blown through it can be explained on the basis of Bernoulli’s principle. The principle states that the pressure, kinetic energy and potential energy of the fluid remains constant.

This means that when we blow through the paper, the velocity of air inside the paper will increase. This increase in the velocity of air will result a corresponding decrease in the pressure inside the paper pipe. But the velocity of air outside the paper is less; therefore, the pressure is greater. The greater pressure outside the pipe exerts a force on the paper and pressing it inward. Hence, the paper squeezes when air is blown through it.
