Question 4: How will you identify the limiting reagent in a reaction?

Answer

Steps for identifying the limiting reagent:

  • If the amounts are given in grams, convert them to moles.
  • Set up a balanced chemical reaction equation.
  • Calculate the number of moles of each product substance from the given number of moles of the reactants.
  • The reactant that gives the less number of moles of the required product will be the limiting reagent.

Note that the limiting reagent will be consumed (finished) first, thereby, stopping the reaction.
