The length of a spaceship is measured to be exactly one-third of its proper length. What is the speed of the spaceship relative to the observer?

Solution

Formula: We know that

Where L = relativistic length of the body, L0 is the proper or rest length, v is the relativistic velocity of the body and c is the velocity of light.

Given:
Relativistic length, L = 1/3(L0)
Velocity of light = c

Required:
Relativistic velocity, v

Put the values in the above formula
