Problem 3: A man pulls a trolley through a distance of 50 m by applying a force of 100 N which makes an angle of 300 with horizontal. Calculate the work done by the man.

Solution

Given:  Force applied on the trolley, F = 100 N,

Distance covered, d = 50 m

Angle between force and distance, θ = 300

Required: Work done, W = ?

Formula                             W = Fdcosθ

Put the values,                  W = 100 × 50 × 0.866                       (cos300 = 0.866)

OR                                       W = 4330 J (Answer)
