Problem 6: At what fraction of speed of light must a particle move so that its K.E is one and a half times the rest energy?

Solution

When a body is moving with relativistic velocity its total energy is assumed to be partly Kinetic and partly the rest mass. Therefore, energy of the relativistic body,

Now according to the condition of the problem,
K.E = (1 + ½ )m0c2 = 3/2 (m0c2) ……………………. (a)

Put this value of K.E in equation (1)

Now the relativistic mass of the body is given by

Put this in equation (2)
