Question: Discuss how vectors are subtracted

ANSWER

Subtraction of a vector from another vector is like the addition of vector except for the difference that we take the negative of the vector to be subtracted and add the negative vector to the first one.

As an example, let a displacement of 50 m is to be subtracted by a displacement of 75 m as shown.

(1) Draw the representative lines of the displacement vectors.

(2) Reverse the direction of the vector to be subtracted.

(3) Add this vector to the first one, simply by head-to-tail rule.
