Question 4: What is least count error? How can least count error be reduced?

Answer

Least count error

Least count is the smallest reading on a measuring instrument. Least count error is one which is related to the resolution of the instrument.

Minimizing least count error

Least count error is associated with the resolution of the instrument and can be reduced by using an instrument of high precision. Precision of the measurement can be improved by using an instrument of smaller least count.

One another technique on the part of the experimenter is to take more readings and the mean value of all the measurements. This will significantly reduce the error.
