On a sunny day the speed of sound in the air is 340 m/s. 2 tuning forks A and B are sounded simultaneously. The wavelength of the sound emitted are 1.5 m and 1.68 m respectively. How many beats will produce?
Solution
Given speed of sound = 340 m/s
Wavelength of the sound from fork B = 1.68 m
Wavelength of the sound from fork A = 1.5 m
Required No of beats produced = n =?
Formula n = f1 – f2
Since the use of formula involves frequencies of the sounds, therefore, we find the frequencies first.
Therefore frequency of fork B
And frequency of fork A
Put the values in the formula, n = 226 – 202 =24 approximately (Answer)
