25200 J of heat is supplied to the system while the system does 6000 J of work. Calculate the change in the internal energy of the system.

Solution

Given    Heat supplied, ΔQ = 25200 J,       Work done, ΔW = 600 J

Asked   Change in the internal energy of the system, ΔU.

Formula               ΔU = ΔQ – ΔW

(See first law of thermodynamics)

Substitute the values in the formula

ΔU = 25200 – 6000 = 19200 J
